What have we achieved together in the past year
The Director Awards for Exceptional Scientific Contribution were awarded at the CEITEC MUNI Christmas party. Congratulations again to all the winners!

Exceptional scientific contributions have also been recognised at CEITEC BUT Christmas party. The Director's Award for an outstanding scientific publication was given to the team of Martin Pumera. Martin Pumera and the team's project Teschcale was recognised as an outstanding scientific project. Vojtěch Schánilec accepted the award for an outstanding PhD student. Furthermore, Pavel Václavek received the BUT Rector's silver medal. Congratulations to all!
Petr Těšina received a prestigious ERC Starting Grant. His research team will focus on quality control during the translation process to unveil co-translational mechanisms in neural tissues. Read more here.
The BDSAT project saw massive progress connected with the launch of the BDSAT-2 nanosatellite which was carried into orbit by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on 3 January 2023. Dalibor Blažek became one of the 69 new members of the European Molecular Biology Organisation EMBO. Four new members are based in the Czech Republic. Read more here.
CEITEC Masaryk University hosted the first-ever Czechoslovak conference on strategic management in science from the national and institutional perspective. The conference provided an opportunity for a meeting of leading government officials from both countries, including Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and representatives of the leadership of Czech and Slovak universities and research institutes, relevant ministries, government councils for research, development and innovation and grant agencies. Michal Urbánek, the head of the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure, together with colleagues from Austria and Poland, would like to build the foundations of a new direction in physics, which would consist in the connection of magnetic materials with superconductors (giving rise to the so-called Ferromagnet/Superconductor hybrids). The GlaCerHub project, coordinated by Karel Maca, is creating an innovation centre which will connect the academia, researchers and representatives from small and medium-sized companies in the area of glass and ceramics industry. Read more here.
Vojtěch Uhlíř together with foreign partners will work on the ambitious METASPIN project which aims to create a revolutionary artificial synapse technology that could solve the main problem of artificial intelligence applications - catastrophic forgetting. Read more here.

The European Research Council (ERC) has selected CEITEC Masaryk University as an example of good practice in science communication. Pavel Plevka and Ester Jarour shared with the scientific community their experience and tips on how to communicate the results of excellent research clearly and effectively. Watch the video here.
CEITEC BUT joined the national campaign Week for Digital Czechia and, on 23 November, the Brno RICAIP Testbed opened its doors to representatives of small and medium-sized companies, journalists, schools and the general public as part of the conference Digitalization: Trends and Practices.
