Research Group Leader

Researcher ID D-6994-2012

Jan Čechal (Ph.D. 2006) has 20 years of experience in surface confined systems including graphene. After the Marie Curie fellowship in the group of prof. Klaus Kern at MPI for Solid State Research in Stuttgart (Germany), he joined CEITEC as a researcher in 2012 and became Research Group Leader there in 2018 developing the research on the self-assembly of molecular nanostructures on surfaces and revealing the possibilities to steer these processes by active graphene substrates. He significantly contributed to establishment of the CF Nano UHV laboratory and to the definition of research and development strategy by several development projects (Teaming and Twinning actions, large national projects). He co-authored 45 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 12). Dr. Čechal has supervised 13 master’s and 12 bachelor’s students who successfully defended their final theses. Currently he leads the group comprising 3 postdocs and 5 Ph.D. students.

The Supervisor is PI of two research projects (Grant Agency of ČR and Ministry of Education of ČR) aimed tuning magnetic interactions on graphene substrates. In addition, he is the co-author and Research Group Leader in the H2020 Twinning project SINNCE and co-author and co-PI of the FET Open project PETER.
