Bio

Jiří Fajkus is a renowned expert in plant molecular biology and epigenetics. He specializes in the study of telomeres – the protective ends of chromosomes that safeguard the genomic DNA from damage, and whose shortening is associated with aging. His research also delves into telomerase, the enzyme capable of slowing, halting, or even reversing this process. His team has made pivotal discoveries that have advanced the understanding of these mechanisms and their potential for therapeutic applications. His research on telomeres and epigenetics is highly impactful not only in plant biology but also in biomedicine, offering critical insights into aging and genome stability.

Jiří Fajkus is a member of the prestigious European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), reflecting his scientific excellence and significant contribution to molecular biology. He was significantly involved in the establishment and development of the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC).
